-
- Q: Are WPWin files, keystrokes, merge language, macros, and
- graphic file formats compatible with WP5.1 and earlier versions?
-
- A:
- File compatibility
- WPWin files are 100% compatible with WP5.1 files. No conversion
- is necessary. There are some additions to the function list and
- the .SET file that will be documented.
-
- Keystroke compatibility
- To comply with CUA (Common User Access) standards set for the
- Windows environment, some WordPerfect for DOS keystrokes have
- been changed in WPWin (use F1 for Help, press Cancel to Escape).
- Cursor keystrokes are also different in the Windows environment.
- However, WPWin users will have the option of choosing a separate
- keyboard that will perform, for the most part, the same as the
- DOS WP5.1 keyboard.
-
- Merge Language
- The WPWin Merge language is the same as WP5.1, and merge files
- created in WP5.1 for DOS may be used in WPWin with no need for
- file conversion.
-
- WP5.1 Macros
- A conversion utility will be shipped with WPWin that may aid in
- the conversion of some WP5.1 macros. However, Macro Convert only
- works with WP5.1 macros.
-
- Graphic file formats
- WPWin will support the same graphic file formats as DOS WP5.1 as
- well as Windows metafile and bitmap graphics. In addition, the
- WPWin File Viewer can view all the graphics formats that are
- supported.

-
- Q: What is the Button Bar?
-
- A: The Button Bar is a horizontal or vertical row of buttons
- representing menu items or macros. The Button Bar is a powerful,
- easy-to-use feature which enables quick access to commonly used
- features. Simply point to the button and click with your mouse
- to execute a commonly used function, such as bold.
-
- Q: What is the limit to the number of buttons per Button Bar?
-
- A: There is no limit. As the buttons fill up the screen space,
- a scroll bar appears. More buttons can be added, and entire
- button bars saved. You can have as many buttons as you want on a
- single Button Bar, and you can have as many different Button Bars
- as you can create.
-
- Q: Am I able to create icons for the Button Bar?
-
- A: No. When you choose a function such as "italics" a pre-
- assigned icon will be displayed on the button. Macros assigned
- to buttons are distinguished by the name that the user assigns to
- the macro.

- Mouse vs. Keyboard
-
- Q: Do I have to use a mouse to use WPWin effectively?
-
- A: Most of what you do with a mouse, can also be done with the
- keyboard. In some cases, the keyboard process may be very
- different.
-
- If you primarily use the keyboard to input text, you can access
- features quickly and easily with mnemonics or shortcut keys. A
- shortcut key can be a single keystroke or keystroke combination.
- For instance, pressing Ctrl-B for Bold, Ctrl-U for Underline, or
- Ctrl-P for Print is easier than reaching for the mouse. It may
- also be easier for you to tab in dialog boxes, instead of
- clicking with the mouse.
-
- Although some functions may be accessed more easily from the
- keyboard, using the mouse allows you to take full advantage of
- the Windows environment. You can use a mouse to move and size
- windows, move and restore icons, select text, and choose commands
- from menus and dialog boxes.
-
- Using a mouse, you can drag graphics to a new location. However,
- with the keyboard, you would first need to open a dialog box,
- then type the exact location where you want the graphic to appear
- on the page.
-
- You can quickly access desired functions with either a click of a
- mouse or the touch of a key. WPWin will provide a smooth step
- into the Windows world for DOS WordPerfect users.

- DDE vs. Spreadsheet Links
-
- Q: What is the difference between a DDE Link and a Spreadsheet
- link?
-
- A:
- DDE Link
-
- Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) allows any type of linked data (text,
- tables, graphs, etc.) to be imported from Windows applications
- that support DDE into a WPWin document. For example, you can
- dynamically link information from a spreadsheet file into a
- newsletter, providing both files are open. As the spreadsheet
- information is edited, it can be updated either automatically or
- manually on screen in the WPWin newsletter.
-
- DDE links are sometimes referred to as "hot links" because when
- data is changed in one linked file (the server), the option is
- available to have it immediately updated in the other file (the
- client).
-
- In the initial release, WPWin will act as a client (receiver)
- only, and not as a server (source) of DDE linked information.
-
-
- Spreadsheet Link
-
- The Spreadsheet Import and Link features of WPWin can import
- files from PlanPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft Excel, Quattro,
- and Quattro Pro into a WPWin document.
-
- A spreadsheet import copies information from the spreadsheet file
- one time only. A spreadsheet link can update the imported
- information as often as necessary in the WPWin document to
- reflect changes made in the spreadsheet file.
-
- During updates of the WPWin file, the source document is on disk
- rather than running in a separate window as with a DDE Link.
-
- Data in both Spreadsheet and DDE Links can be updated
- automatically or manually.

-
- Q: What networks are supported by WPWin?
-
- A:
- 10Net
- 3COM 3+
- 3COM 3+ OPEN
- AT&T StarGROUP
- Banyan VINES
- Banyan Street Talk
- DEC PCSA
- DNA
- IBM LAN Network
- LAN Manager 2.0 Enhanced
- LAN Manager 1.x or 2.0 Basic
- LANtastic
- MicroSoft Network
- Nexos
- Nokia PC-Net
- Novell NetWare
- PCLP Enhanced
- PCLP Base Services

- Other
-
- If a network emulates one of the above networks, the user can
- choose either the network it emulates or "Other".

- Fonts
-
- Q: Can the fonts that come with DrawPerfect be used in WPWin?
-
- A: DrawPerfect fonts can be used in WPWin the same way they are
- used in WP for DOS by importing them as a graphic and printing
- them with DrawPerfect's WP.DRS file. However, DrawPerfect fonts
- will not be accessible from the font list within a WPWin
- document.
-
- Q: Will any fonts ship with WPWin?
-
- A: No, but Microsoft Windows does include fonts. With a WP
- printer driver selected, the font list in WPWin is the same as
- the font list in DOS WP 5.1 with the same printer selected. With
- a Windows printer driver selected, the base font list will
- include the fonts that come with the Windows driver, plus any
- fonts that have been loaded into the Windows system.
-
- Q: Will WPWin support Bitstream Fontware 3.0?
-
- A: Yes. Fontware 3.0 is supported using DOS WP 5.1 printer
- drivers. When Fontware fonts have been installed into a WP 5.1
- printer driver, they work just like any other software soft font.
-
- WPWin will also support Adobe Type Manager, Facelift for Windows,
- Intellifont for Windows, and other third-party fonts that can be
- installed into the Windows system. The user must select a
- Windows printer driver to print these third-party fonts.
-
- Note: WPWin users have the option of printing with the DOS WP
- 5.1 drivers or the Windows system drivers. DOS WP 5.1 fonts can
- be accessed in WPWin using the DOS WP 5.1 printer drivers, and
- Windows font products can be accessed using Windows system
- drivers. Exception: Facelift for DOS cannot be used in Windows
- (with either DOS or Windows drivers), because Facelift for DOS
- requires a TSR which cannot be executed under Windows.
-
